Evernote is a very popular app – it has 4/5 stars on the iOS app store with 146 review –  and it offers many different services relating to the concept of note-taking. You can keep all of your notes in the cloud while also making them easily available to other people. Overall, it is versatile and general in its capabilities.

The primary service that Evernote provides is note-taking. You store text-based notes inside of virtual notebooks that you can name, arrange, and share (with editing/viewing privileges). To organize your notes, you give them tags in addition to separating them into notebooks.
In addition to text, you can put many other kinds of data inside of you notes like emails, pictures, pdf's, links, lists, presentations (using a unique Evernote presentation system), reminders,  checklists, various formatting features, and a few other features. This is all nice to have available for the power user, but for the average user you will most likely only use a few of these.
Although this sounds like a lot to deal with for a simple note, Evernote does a good job of making its interface fast and easy. If you want to make quick notes without any sort of fancy formatting, you can do that efficiently and without much clicking around.
You may already have thought of some ideas for how Evernote can be used by a student. That student could use Evernote to record homework that they have to do or even to do your homework. Evernote makes it easy to store and organize your essays, important URL's, and all notes without using a messy binder. Though the student might not be able to access Evernote in class each day, they can still use it to organize digital copies of all their school papers.
Evernote is a multiplatform application. It's an Android app, web app, iOS app (for all mobile iOS devices), and an iMac desktop app. Teachers with iPads would be able to use Evernote during class, and then later access their notes on their computers or phones. The seamless syncing of information works well between the teachers' devices, and can also be shared with any student they like.
Overall, this app does a good job of integrating the internet but also works well by itself. The Evernote company has grown significantly in the last couple of years, and with that they have greatly expanded their integrated tools. Now they have pens that record your handwriting, special notebooks, fancy backpacks and much much more. The major areas of utility that Evernote offers are note-taking, presenting, and writing.
